New Quebec Immigration Law now in effect

Primus Immigration wants to inform you that, as of April 1, 2014, the new Québec immigration program is now in effect.

By way of this program, Immigration Québec will be accepting 6,500 applications in the Skilled Workers subclass between April 1, 2014 and March 31, 2015.

The Québec Skilled Workers program is now open to all professions, but certain professions will be attributed different points. Attached you may find a list of the areas of training that will be afforded points, sorted by the amount of points each area of training will receive. Please note that you should only regard Part I of this list. Degrees listed in Part II are only applicable if they were obtained from a Québec university.

We would like to remind you that in order for a candidate to qualify under a specific area of training, they must:

  • have a qualified degree in that area of training which was obtained within the 5 years preceding the deposit of the file or,
  • if the degree is more than 5 years old, have at least 1 year of full-time work experience, in the five years preceding deposit of the file, directly related to the area of study.

Please note that points for French are now only attributed to applicants who provide test results indicating at least a B2 level of French speaking and understanding. Some points will now also be awarded if an applicant can prove a B2 level in French reading and/or writing, but this will not be required in every case.

Regarding English, in some cases it will be needed, or otherwise beneficial, for the Principal Applicant only to present the IELTS exam to provide proof of English. Points for English will only be awarded in categories in which the candidate has proven at least an Intermediate level. All four categories (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) will be assessed.

We advise you to read the information about this new law that is provided on the BIQ’s website: http://www.immigration-quebec.gouv.qc.ca/en/informations/rules-procedures.html
